On this page is every mashup video I created. Like any common mashup, I took two entirely different movie ideas and merged them together into a creative media project. The mashups represent my fascination with finding a connection between movies and soundtracks with entirely different themes and finding the synchronicity between those themes based on the height, the emotion, the rhythm and the concept. And from that synchronicity, I create a unique perspective on those original ideas. The inspiration for my mashups come from me thinking randomly about two movies at the same time and me listening to songs that have lyrics that remind me of something else entirely. Because of all that, I start to perceive that connection with my creative thinking.

Middle-Earth and the Rising Bad Moon
This is a mashup of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit combined with the Palestra version of “Bad Moon Rising”. This is my first prominent mashup, where I worked extensively, using dozens of clips from several scenes in every movie in both film series. I synced the scenes together with the rhythm, pace and lyrics of the song to make a familiar connection. This all started with me hearing Palestra’s “Bad Moon” Rising from a movie trailer for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Sword of Destiny. Later on, by remembering how haunting and epic Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are, I thought Palestra’s “Bad Moon Rising” had a similar concept where insurmountable danger was imminent and there are those who must be ready to face it boldly, almost like a hero’s journey.

The Legendary Avengers
This is a second music video and another prominent mashup where I worked extensively to combine clips of scenes from several Marvel movies with the song “Legendary” by Welshly Arms. Like the previous video, I listened to the song many times and I think it’s epic and inspiring and it shows what it means to be a classic hero who can transform into a legend for doing incredible things. The song made me think about the Marvel movies, where many characters are heroes who fight to achieve incredible things and ascend to become legends among people. And I made this mashup to show how the song represents the nature of the Avengers.

Creed: A Star Wars Story
This is a mashup where I took the audio of the movie trailer of Creed 2 and combined it with clips of scenes from Star Wars. Most of the clips are from the original Star Wars trilogy, a few from the prequels and a couple from Rogue One. In the movie trailer, there’s a moment where Rocky describes Viktor Drago by saying “that kid was raised in hate.” I kept thinking about those words he said and then randomly, I started thinking about Darth Vader and how he was raised in hate also, which led him to become a vengeful, heartless fighter. By comparing Luke and Vader to Creed and Drago, the mashup is almost like a glimpse into an alternate reality where Luke and Vader are not father and son but two warrior men from different families who prepare for the battle of the ages.

Tremors 7: Last Blood
This mashup is a recreation of the end credits from Rambo: Last Blood, where I took the ending soundtrack and combined it with scenes of Burt Gummer, the main protagonist of the Tremors movies. How it all started is that I was watching Tremors: Shrieker Island, where Burt finally dies and as the end credits were rolling, it shows a montage of other scenes of Burt from every Tremors movie in the series. Looking at the montage reminded me of the end credits of Rambo: Last Blood, where it shows a montage of Rambo’s scenes in every one of his movies. I was inspired by what I saw and after recreating the slow-motion effect used in Rambo, I created the mashup to present Burt Gummer’s montage with more action and more depth based on his pivotal role in the story.

Riddick Meets Bryan Adams
This is my very first mashup video, which I created during high school when I first began to learn about film editing and media work. The mashup is a movie trailer of Riddick combined with the song “You Can’t Take Me” by Bryan Adams used in the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I was remembering the lyrics of the song and I started thinking of Vin Diesel’s Riddick who is like a wild animal who is free and can’t be captured by anyone, like the character Spirit. As a beginner to mashups, I simply merged the entire uncut trailer with the song that had to be shortened to sync up with filming shots and climax of the trailer.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dark World
This is my second mashup video that I made years earlier. It shows pictures of scenes from the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 merged together with the soundtrack used in the end credits of Thor: The Dark World, where I used a simple transitioning special effect to amateurly recreate the end credit sequence of The Dark World. I was thinking of how both movies are sequels to the first movie of each other’s series and how they’re supposed to be more epic than the first. I thought of what the end credits of Kung Fu Panda 2 would look like in a Marvel-based version.

Terminator 1984 Title, Salvation Music
This mashup is a simple amateur video, where I took the opening title from The Terminator and combined it with the audio of the opening credits from Terminator Salvation. In the opening credits of Salvation, there’s a special effect sequence where two halves of the title overlap and reveal each other, which is very similar to the same sequence used in The Terminator. By recognizing it, I simply imagined what it would look like if the opening title from The Terminator had the Salvation soundtrack, sharing the same opening title effect. And I attempted to sync both endings with each other to make a proper conclusion.

Those Who Are Only Being Human
This mashup is a music video where I combined the song “Human” by Rag’n’Bone Man with clips of scenes from several movies, with most of them being science fiction. I listened to the song many times and I think it’s riveting, heartfelt, insightful, creative and I think it sends a message about what it is to be human. The song reminded me of movies I’ve seen where certain hero characters have the strongest spirit of humanity or have the potential to carry humanity within them. They’re faced with challenges about the good and bad and they learn to achieve the best out of who and what they are. This music video shows a common idea that is fundamental to life itself, which makes this another prominent mashup of my own.

A Much Darker Halloween
This mashup is the ending scene of Halloween with an alternate ending soundtrack. Instead of the classic piano music that is ominous and spooky, I used the ending music from the sci-fi horror movie Life with Jake Gyllenhaal. By listening to the rhythm, tone and instruments, I found the ending music of Life to be climactic, horrifying and ominous. I was thinking about Halloween and Life separately around the same time and I realized that they’re both movies where the story is not yet over and the villain wins or survives. I thought by using the soundtrack from Life, it would make Halloween look darker and more thrilling and more climactic.

Mission to Mars, Atlantis 2001 Style
This mashup is a third recreation of a movie trailer, where I took several scenes from Mission to Mars and merged it with the trailer music from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. I was thinking about this soundtrack that is powerful, enlightening and epic and it happens when the submarine launches underwater in Atlantis. Having seen Mission to Mars all before, I was also thinking about how its modest storyline leads to a mythical conclusion that is mesmerizing and epic as well. Both movies have an ordinary story with lots of potential for myth and wonder and the Atlantis soundtrack seemed fitting for a story like Mission to Mars where dangers of nature will arise on the journey for heroes who fight to search for truth.

Event Horizon, Alien Covenant Style
This mashup is where I took parts of scenes from Event Horizon and merged them with the audio of the entire uncut teaser trailer of Alien: Covenant. The thought of both movies occurred to me simultaneously and I was thinking about how they’re both sci-fi horror and they share a degree of suspense and mystery about the horrors of the unknown and human protagonists confronting otherworldly forces. The mashup is another recreation of the Alien: Covenant teaser trailer with Event Horizon having a more charming atmosphere within the same dangerous setting.

“Welcome Home” by 9 and Star Wars 1
This mashup is where I merged scenes from Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace with the movie trailer music from the animated movie 9. There’s a heavy rock song called “Welcome Home” by Coheed and Cambria that plays throughout the trailer and it sounds like a theme to an action-packed movie with great heroics and great danger. Because the song made me think about action movies, I randomly thought about The Phantom Menace and I remembered how much of it is filled with heroic action and I thought the song and trailer music of 9 would make a riveting and rushing take on Star Wars.
